High 4-H achievement honored with lifelong membership in Honor Club

New Bern, NC, (July 31, 2024) – On July 22nd, Craven County resident and 4-H member Matthew Peluso was inducted into the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club during a ceremony at North Carolina 4-H Congress. Induction into 4-H Honor Club marks high achievement and participation in 4-H and guarantees members a connection to NC 4-H for a lifetime.

Founded in 1931, Honor Club is a statewide 4-H service organization with over three thousand members from every county across North Carolina. 4-H’ers are granted membership in NC 4-H Honor Club for outstanding accomplishments in leadership, civic engagement, and community service. In what is a defining moment for many 4-H’ers, accepted candidates are inducted into Honor Club at 4-H Congress in Raleigh in a special candlelight ceremony where they are “tapped” into the organization by an existing member.

Matthew is 18 years old and is involved in a variety of 4-H projects, including Poultry Judging, Presentations, and Leadership. Of his experience in 4-H, Matthew says, “I have spent a lot of time in 4-H especially in the poultry and communications project areas. I understand what it means to be a good ambadssador for the community and “Make the Best Better” at the local, district, state, and national levels. Having this experience, I intend to help continue using the honor club volunteer opportunities to provide 4-Hers with insight and help as they develop in communications, agriculture, leadership, and beyond.”
