Horse Bowl

This is a quiz bowl for teams of 4-5 members. Youth may compete as teams of Juniors (ages 9-13), Seniors (ages 14-18), or Mixed teams (no more than 2 Seniors seated on a team). Teams compete at the District level and must qualify to compete at the State level. For more information please see the State 4-H Horse Bowl Site

Horse Bowl Timeline:

November – work on questions to be submitted
Late December – Questions due to the State 4-H Horse Program
Early January – Team Registration due to District
Late January – District Horse Bowl Competition

Hippology

This is a test of horse knowledge for youth who may compete as teams or as individuals. All members of the team will be given an individual score in addition to the team score. There are two parts to the Hippology Test – the first day, which is the identification and test part, and the second day, which is a horse judging component. There is no District Competition, youth go directly to the State Level. For more information, please see the State 4-H Hippology Site.

2020 Date is March 7 for Test Component
2020 Date is April 18 for Judging Component

Horse Judging

This is a competition for youth ages 9-18 where competitors look at horse conformation and movement in multiple disciplines. Youth may compete as teams (Junior or Senior) or as individuals. There is no District level, youth go directly to the State Contest. For more information, please go to the State 4-H Horse Judging Site.

Horse Judging Timeline:

Early April – Submit State Registration
2020 Due Date is April 1 for Judging
Mid-April – State Competition
2020 Date is April 18 for Judging

Presentations & Public Speaking

This is a program for youth ages 5-18 where they may compete as individuals or as members of a two-person team (presentation only) to present on a horse topic. Age categories are 9-10, 11-13, and 14-18. Youth must compete at the County Activity Day to participate at the District Level (NOTE: this is not a direct competition so youth do not have to win anything, merely give their presentations). Youth must qualify at the District level in order to compete at the State level. Some categories have National Competitions for State winners who are Seniors. Ask your 4-H Agent for more information if you are interested in competing in one of these Categories. Please see the State 4-H Horse Presentation Site for more information. If you would like to do a presentation that is not in the Horse Category, please see the State 4-H Presentation Competition Site for more information. East Regional 4-h Horse Show

The ER 4-H Horse show is for the Northeast and Southeast Districts, along with other 4-Hers across the state who would like to participate. This is a Qualifying Show for the North Carolina State 4-H Horse Show and it offers the following divisions: Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, Non-Trotting, Western, Ranch, and Gaming. Horse Artistic Expressions Contest

This is a collection of contests for youth to be creative about horses without having to own one. The contest is for youth ages 9-18 and has a wide variety of categories including Crafts, Drawing, Painting, Poster, Photography, Sewing, and Creative Writing.
