12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Annuals and Perennials for Phytophthora-infested Landscape Beds. Phytophthora species can be a perennial problem causing root and crown rots on annuals and herbaceous perennials in landscape beds. Ella Reeves  and the lab of Inga Meadows have been evaluating alternative plants for Phytophthora infested landscape beds for 3 years and have accumulated a list of plants that would do well in such locations and plants to avoid. Learn about these annuals and herbaceous perennials, how they performed in our studies, and other diseases to watch out for!

Ella received an M.Sc. in plant pathology working with Dr. Barbara Shew and Dr. Jim Kerns in NC State’s DEPP in 2020. Her research focused on the etiology of Pythium root rot of winter wheat and other winter crops. Since finishing her graduate work, Ella has been working as a research assistant with Inga Meadows in the vegetable and herbaceous ornamental pathology lab at the Mountain Research Station in Waynesville, NC. Ella will be joining us from the Research Station via Zoom.
