July 2021 begins the application period for new grant assistance for swine,  poultry, vegetable, and speciality crops, (including greenhouses) producers affected by Hurricanes Florence, Michael, and Dorian in 2018-19. Almost $80 million has been designated for this grant. The application is online only. As such, one will need an email account and to establish a username and password to apply. One application is necessary for each identity (Tax ID) associated with the operation (for those with multiple family member involvements and or multiple business structures).
Funds may be used for reimbursement and/or loss as follows:
  • For swine and poultry, funds are available for structure damage, including damage caused by flooding.
  • For poultry producers, funds will include grants for a 15% or greater loss in income, loss of birds, and costs to relocate buildings outside of 100 yr floodplain.
  • Funds are available for damage or loss to nursery crops, including pecans.
  • Funds are available for damage or loss to greenhouses or greenhouse production, including tobacco.
  • Funds will cover damages to plasticulture vegetable/fruit production.
  • Forestry:  Management Plan and Technical Assistance is available through this grant fund and will be administered by the North Carolina Forest Service.

Documentation needed for the application will include your tax ID information, receipts for repair, any insurance settlement (if any), and supporting payments for labor, repair, loss of income, etc.
