As I get older I don’t seem to need as much stuff as I did when I was younger. I want a gift that I can use and that I don’t have to dust! As a gardener, I appreciate receiving gifts that are practical and that I can use in the garden. If you have a gardener who you may be shopping for, here are a few suggestions of gifts to consider when shopping for them.
- Quality garden gloves and high-quality tools like trowels, pruning equipment, weeders, bulb planters, shovels, garden rakes
- Other tools such as kneeling pads, hats, trugs or buckets, netting, floating row cover, watering cans, hoses, gator bags, sprinklers
- Gardening books or computer software for garden design
- Gift certificates to local garden centers, nurseries, or to mail-order catalogs allow the gardener to select what they would like
- Composters can be purchased, or for a more personal gift build one for your gardener
- Purchase quality compost by the truckload for delivery when needed for the garden – Union County Solid Waste has compost for sale at their facility at 2125 Austin Chaney Rd, Wingate for $20 cubic yard
- Pampering items such as gardener’s hand soap, lip balms, gardener’s hand lotion or cream, and scented bath salts let the gardener remove the grime and recover from their gardening chores
- Give a membership – to a local botanical garden or arboretum (these often have reciprocal agreements with many other gardens and arboretums).
- Local honey, local fruit products such as jellies, jams, wines, cider, birdfeeders, birdbaths, water fountains, statuary
- For real luxury give the gift of a 1-2 week guided gardening trip or tour.
