Collapse ▲Three Carteret County Youth Participate in District Presentations; Two Move Onto State Presentations
4-H Presentations are a huge part of North Carolina 4-H. It is one of the most successful ways to help a young person learn how to do a public speech. It focuses on members teaching others what they know about a particular project/subject matter. They are sometimes called demonstrations or illustrated talk or a formal speech. Each year, youth present for a panel of judges at the county level. The judges are asked to evaluate the presentation based on District and State rubrics and to provide feedback for improvement. Then, youth present at District Activity Day, typically held yearly during the month of June.
This year’s face-to-face District Activity Day was canceled due to COVID-19, but was rescheduled through online presentation submissions. In total, 492 videos were submitted across the state to District Level competition.
Carteret County had three youth who submitted videos for District Judging and all three of them placed at the District Level.
- Catherine Paschall received Bronze with her presentation “DNA: The Instructions of Life” in the 8-10 Science and Technology Category.
- Bethany Copeland received Gold with her presentation “Dogs of the USA” in the 11-13 Small and Companion Animal Category.
- Alanna Paschall received Silver with her presentation “Upcycling Denim” in the 14-18 Family & Consumer Science Category.
District Level Judging was held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, and winners moving onto the State Level were announced the following day. Both Bethany and Alanna have been invited to present at the State level next month.
