Veteran’s Day Program for Youth – Youth ages 11 and older are invited to celebrate Veteran’s Day with a special citizenship program on November 11 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The program will begin at the Agricultural Resource Center with a workshop on personal and flag etiquette, using materials from the 4-H Ambassador Leadership series. Following the workshop, the group will venture to the Government Center, where they will learn about Veteran’s services and attend the Veteran’s Office Open House. Youth will gather clues for the Government Center Scavenger Hunt as they visit some different county departments, including Tax, Elections, Utilities and Engineering, and others.

There is no charge to attend the program, but families are asked to bring a donation for the Veteran’s Buddy Basket. Suggested donations include cleaning supplies, laundry basket, paper products, towels, or other basic home items. Buddy Baskets are given to transitional veteran’s moving from homelessness into housing and is a project of VFW units.

For more information or to register to attend, contact Cooperative Extension at 828-465-8240 or email Donna Mull, Catawba County 4-H Agent, at donna_mull@ncsu.edu. The deadline to register is November 6. 4-H membership is not required to attend the Veteran’s Day program, but the youth who are not part of 4-H will need to complete the 4-H medical form.

4-H is a volunteer-led youth development program offered through N.C. Cooperative Extension for youth ages 5-18. 4-H offers youth the opportunities to learn about topics such as citizenship, science, and healthy living while developing skills to grow into adult leaders.
